Mannitol, also known as mannitol, is a six-carbon polyol extracted from brown algae cells, with two configurations of D and L.
Application&Function
(1)Mannitol is one of the commonly-used sugar substitutes and it is the least absorbent sugar alcohol, which can be used in food adhesive powder.The hygienic standard GB 2760 -- 2007 for the use of food additives in China can be used for sugar-free chewing gum with a maximum dosage of 200 g/kg.As confirmed by JECFA, the ADI value is 0 ~ 50 mg/(kg weight ·d).
(2)According to the us FDA, the maximum amount of mannitol used in various foods is as follows: 98% of mints, 40% of marshmallows, 5% of hard candies, 8% of candies and ice cream, 5% of cough syrups, 15% of jam and jelly, 31% of gumdrop, and 2.5% of other foods. Mannitol is listed in the American pharmacopoeia, the natural medicine chapter, and in the pharmacopoeia of countries around the world, including the food chemistry manual (FEC).
